In 1996 a hairless
kitten was born from a domestic cat in Toronto, Canada. It was discovered to be
a natural mutation. This cat and a few other naturally hairless cats found
around the world, are the foundation for the Sphynx.
The Sphynx is not a
totally hairless cat. There is fine down on the body which feels like a peach
skin or a chamois. Some light hair is often present on the nose, tail and toes.
They come in every
possible colour and is seen in the pigment of the skin and the few hairs
that they do have.
This is a medium
sized but strong cat, with sturdy boning and good muscle development. They have
a bit of a belly as if they had just eaten.
If it is to cold for
you, it is to cold for the Sphynx. They love to cuddle up with you under a
blanket and come bedtime they will undoubtably be in your bed before you.
They get along very
well with the other pets in the house, and they are not aggressive towards other
animals, The Sphynx is not a cat that you just see when you feed it, it is
always around you, on you or showing off for you.
The Sphynx needs to
be bathed periodically, because of the lack of hair that would normally absorb
body oils. Dust tends to stick to their skin, because of this oil on the skin.
They get bathed from when they are still very small, so they get use to it and
normally have not problem with it.
Some people that are
allergic to cats, tend to have no allergic reaction to the Sphynx.
The Sphynx is one of the most
wonderful pets that a person can have. Especially those without children.
They do not just feel like babies, but they act like babies too.
